100 Fish!
On board today, I had regulars. Chris, Scott, and Carlton for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, flat-calm conditions with a dense fog east of Bug Light. We worked around the fog and decided to stay on the edge instead of fishing in the thick of it. We found fish right off and began to hook up in shallow water. We left the main channel and went up onto the flats and found more fish in only a couple feet of water. These were all topwater fish, breaking on top, chasing bait.
About mid-morning we left the breaking fish to avoid getting grounded on the dropping tide, and started to fish structure. The fish were there as well and we hooked up on just about every drift!
Towards the end of our trip, we fished back up on the flats at near slack and found more breaking fish in only a few feet of water. We basically found fish again today everywhere we went. We also saw a lot of seals, and had three gray seals pass right by the boat at one point.
All of our fish today were one year old fish to six year old fish that topped out at 26″ inches. No keepers anywhere in our bay, and no blues, although we did get bit off once by a small one. Total catch and release: ONE-HUNDRED fish!!! Non-stop action all morning. What a blast!
Back at it as the Fall Run continues…
