Striped Bass #2 of Season Landed
Greetings from Baymen Charters!
Congrats to Jessica Heil for landing the second striped bass of the season in our local waters. Mike Dixon got first one a few weeks back. As the warmer weather and water temps continue, expect to hear of more fish starting to show. These first fish I like to call “scouts” and they always show up about this time of year before the schools of migrating stripers began to show, right on their heals.
Spring birds continue to arrive daily, Phoebe and wood thrush showed up yesterday. Also, herring flies and may flies have started hatching. Lots of trees are starting to leaf out including honey suckle and early maples, and blue bonnets are in bloom. Which brings us to trout fishing!
Many anglers are landing some big rainbows and tiger trout on the fly and LT. Some fat fish in the mix. Have not seen too many brookies or local browns yet.
OTHER NEWS
FLIES – Some Baymen Universals have gone to New Zealand and Mexico. Excited to hear what they catch in those waters. Stay tuned. These were my final batches of fly patterns I tied and I am done tying now until next winter.
BOAT – Painting continues on the Baymen skiff in between rain showers. Tomorrow looks like decent weather, sunny and warm, and I hope to get it wrapped up and prepare for the shake down cruise.
EARLY CHARTERS – Once I am into fish, I will be offering RECON charters until my regular season kicks in. RECON trips are pre-season charters of just a few hours for 1-2 anglers in search of the first fish of the season. They are short trips, deeply discounted from my regular season rates. Shoot me an e-mail if you want to book one.
CLAMMING – We clammed and did well for hardshells, even on the +1.2 tide. Most of the flats were under water but we found some clams on the edges. Not thick, but enough to keep us busy on a plus tide. A highlight was a mature bald eagle that landed in a tree and watched us dig!
That’s the latest update from BAYMEN on the MA coast. Daily Baymen Fishing Reports will began very soon… Check back for all the latest.
