SPRING UPDATE!
Greetings from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN!
Spring continues to march forward in Baymen Land. The boat is running like a top and I have been on the bay. Today, I saw my first common tern in the pouring rain. This is the earliest I have ever seen a tern on our waters.
Other signs of spring: the peepers are singing up a storm. I had to just stop and close my eyes and listen the other night by a roadside swamp. The sound was deafening – and beautiful! I have heard woodcock dancing in the dusking sky as well. Their wings whistle and they make a “peent” sound before taking to the sky to perform a courtship dance for a prospective mate. If you are single, or can remember when you where, I am sure you can relate.
Osprey are showing up all around the bay, rivers and ponds. Herring are stacked up in wareham and pembroke this past weekend, dandylions are starting to poke up, daffodils are beginning to bloom and April showers are under way. AND striped bass holdovers are active in the estuaries!
COUPLE DATES/THINGS TO REMEMBER:
STRIPED BASS CHARTERS – call quick to book a remaining date for 2018 or to lock in dates for 2019 and 2020. As I have said before, 2020 will be the year of lots of BIG FISH in our bay…
FALL DUCK HUNTS – I am offering puddle duck hunts this fall. Canoe trips to my blind. Early season wood ducks and puddlers.
FALL RUFFED GROUSE and Woodcock hunts in Vermont. I am offering only two trips. E-mail or call asap if you want to go. 3-7 day hunts available in “Bert Spiller covers” right out of the old-time literature.
CLAMMING TRIPS – softshell and hard shell trips available. Solo trips, couples, families. Dig your own clams with me and take home a bucketful.
Well, it’s all coming alive. I am in my 26th year of guiding. A few more years of it and I am going to start to slow down a little (or retire!) Ha. Thanks to everyone that has been with me all these years and thanks to all my new clients as well. Can’t wait guide you on the waters and in the woods in 2019, 2020 and beyond.
Call me or e-mail me and lets get out!
Sincerely,
Capt. Dave, BAYMEN, www.baymenlife.com (781) 934-2838 baymencharters@gmail.com
