Shoot! That’s good…
Got a few hours of work in this morning and then took a coffee break with one of my favorite anglers on the bay: Peter Kelly-Detwiler, aka, “Spook.”
Peter and I have been fishing alongside each other for years. I fish a 22 foot flats skiff and Spook fishes an Echo rowing shell. When it comes to rowing and fishing the bay, there is no one better. You may sometimes hear me use the word “Intel” in my daily Baymen Reports. Spook and I have been exchanging top secret information on fishing conditions since we first met.
If you are in business, you no doubt know of peter as Co-founder and Principle of NorthBridge Energy partners. You may have also read his articles on technology integration in the electric power grid industry in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, el al. Peter is also an author and has a new book coming out very soon. Watch for his name on Amazon.
Spook knows the bay well and can fish very skinny water and get to fish that most people can’t reach, over shallow-water sandbars. I can’t tell you how many times I have seen him working a school of striped bass in skinny water and land a keeper, but it is pretty frequent! One other thing that amazes me about Spook is his ability to cover water in his rowing shell – miles of water – fast! I was once fishing alongside him on a flat and decided to run across the bay and fish some new water. I fired up the boat and ran a couple miles and found some new fish. A few minutes later, I looked up and there was Spook – hooked up on a fish beside me!!! You will have to ask him how fast he moves, but I am telling you, he can really haul across the bay!
Well, the coffee was wonderful as we sat outdoors and chatted about horseshoe crabs, great white sharks, seals, Monomoy, striped bass, blues, family, real estate, rowing shells, Hawaii… A lovely list of the important things in life. It is always great to sip coffee with a fellow Baymen and one of my favorite anglers on the bay.
Tight lines, Spook! See you out there soon…
Sincerely,
Capt. David Bitters, BAYMEN, www.baymenlife.com (781) 934-2838 baymencharters@gmail.com
