Broke Down, Towed In
The Baymen Flats Skiff. A light tackle & fly fisherman’s dream
I have broken down on the bay three times in 27 years. Or to put it another way, I have made over 3,500 trips on the bay in the past 27 years and have only had to be towed in three times including today.
My boat and gear is comfortably worn and I pride myself in keeping everything in top condition. I do preventative maintenance twice a season whether it needs it or not and is pays off every trip.
I said it many time before and I will say it again: I have the best clients and support network on the face of the planet and a higher authority above watching over me. Let me give you today as an example. 1) When my boat broke down on the bay this morning on the dropping tide, we were in 45 fow – not up on the flats where I typically fish. If we broke down up there today, we would still be there. 2) My clients Steven and Dan were relaxed and cool. Disappointed but no big deal. Total class and total gentlemen. 3) I called TowBoatUS on the marine radio and I kid you not – they were on scene and starting the tow in two minutes! They were just coming in from a 3:00am call in the North River and going by us when I paged them. 4) Multiple oystermen were working at the boat ramp when we arrived and they all offered to assist with landing and getting my boat onto my trailer 5) I dropped my boat off to my mechanic and he dropped everything and started trouble shooting to fix the issue before I was even out of the parking lot! 6) And this one kills me and humbles me: my client handed me a big tip and said Thank you and meant it.
I see God’s hand in my life every day. From the big things to the small, I thank God for always watching over me and blessing me and my clients. And to all of you that helped me out today – THANK YOU.
Lastly, we landed eight fish this am before we broke down and I hadn’t even started putting my clients on the fish yet. That put a smile on my face :o)
Back at it. Stay Posted:
