Greetings from BAYMEN!

On board today, regulars, Gene and Julie Dupuis for light tackle striped bass. This wonderful couple has been fishing with me for years and it is always a great time on the water.

At first light, calm and overcast with a high tide. We checked on one of spots and there were no fish. So, we ran across the bay and began using some search patterns (topwater poppers) in the hopes of finding some fish. We landed three fish on the poppers, then as the tide began to move out, we ran across the bay again and presto! Fish stacked up on the dropping tide!

All fish were holding tight to the bottom so we switched over from poppers to Baymen Jigs and fished the entire morning with these jigs. Crank-Crank-Pop… Crank-Crank-Pop… WHAM! Fish on! This was the scenario all morning and we had many double hook-ups. All the fish were hanging on the drop-offs and only in certain spots. The flats were very quiet today.

At the end of the morning, we can across the bay yet again and dropped out jigs in several spots. A few very small bass hit our jigs. Then the last spot of the morning was a sand bar along a deep drop-off. Crank-Crank- Pop… WHAM! Julie hooked into a keeper! That fish ran to the back of the boat, then under the boat, then around the prop, then around the sonar! It was a dance to get it out of everything and not lose it and not get the braided line cut in the prop. It all worked out and we finally got that fish in the boat. What a blast on light tackle jigs!

Total catch and release today was 54 fish for this hard-fishing couple. A great day on  the bay!
