23 Fish, Keeper On LT
Greetings from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN Charters!
After yesterday’s winds and rain, it was wonderful to get back on the bay today with two of my regulars, Chris & Molly DeVillers for light tackle striped bass.
At first light, calm conditions, sunny skies, and low tide incoming. We found fish right out of the gate and marked a couple BIG fish on the bottom. We hooked into fish up to 27″+ inches but the cows never showed again after the first drift. On to our second spot of the morning and we found a school of bass stacked up and off by themselves. We got several drifts over them and then they vanished just like the cows. Bass move with the tides and the tides are always moving.
At one point during the morning, Molly hooked in a big fish! Great run, great bend in the rod, and great fight. Then….it threw the hook. Molly remained completely calm, blessed the fish, and then we moved on…
We picked up some more fish and we thought for sure we had another small keeper when we brought it onboard. 1/2 ” inch short and FAT! From there we ran to our last spot of the morning and got into a late morning mini-blitz of topwater fish! WHAM! Keeper on the line! That one didn’t get away and he is on his way to Chris & Molly’s grill as we speak.
Total catch and release today was 23 fish, all on light tackle gear. The keeper taped out to a FAT 31″ inches. Great job, guys! See you for our next trip in September.
Back at it with two more this week and then this Captain and the Admiral are on VACATION.
Tight Lines and good fishing to all.
