(3 Light Tackle Striped Bass. A quick pic then released. We had many triple hook-ups)

Greetings from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN Charters!

On board today, regulars, Chris & Molly DeVillers and their god daugter, Emily, for light tackle striped bass. This crew has been fishing with me for many years and all are top LT anglers. Last night, I confirmed this morning’s charter with them and told them it may a little slow today, as winds are turning EAST and that almost always slows the bite on the bay.

At first light, near calm conditions and a wisp of NE wind that turned E, then SE, then all East and never more than a light breeze. And the fishing was on fire! We worked flats and cuts all morning to striped bass that were holding bottom. ZERO bird activity and almost ZERO topwater action, except an occasional break for a solo fish or a pair of bass. Other than that, it was all structure, flats and cuts fishing.

We started the morning with topwater poppers to try and locate fish and entice them up on topwater. Once we began to find fish, we added some rubber cranks baits. Then, Chris picked up a rod rigged with a Baymen Jig, and the rest is history! The bass began to slam the Baymen Jig and rubber crank baits on every drift. Chris then gave Emily another rod with a Baymen Jig, showed her how to fish it, and it was lights out fishing the rest of the morning.

Total catch and release today was a whopping 119 striped bass. Two of them were 31″ inches and went home in the cooler for dinner fish. Most of the other fish we landed and released today taped out to 27″ – 27 3/4″ inches and they were all fat and healthy. These are the fish we were catching and releasing two years ago that were 22″ inch fish. Boy, are they fun to catch on LT!

A great morning on the bay, sunny and warm and a wonderful first day of summer. Great job to the crew. That was an amazing morning!
