16 Fish
On board today, I had Lt. Col. Richard “The Machine” Comstock, and his son-in-law, Michael, and grandkids Harrison 8 1/2, and Graham 5 1/2, from California for light tackle striped bass.
At first light SW winds were cranking and the bay was white-capped. I had planned out the morning of fishing in advance, but had to scarp it due to choppy seas. We switched up to Plan B and began to fish some waters using the land masses as wind breaks. We got our first couple of fish of the morning. The winds let up for a short time, so we shot across the bay and began to fish some more productive waters.
We worked structure in sheltered water and did well. Plenty of fish to keep the boys busy on the structure and we began to pick off the fish one by one on the bottom with the light tackle.
The SW winds changed to S and the chop was still up but not as bad as it was at first light. We ran across the bay to the rip and then worked out way down into cow yard. We found a few fish here and there all along the way.
The boys fished non-stop for five solid hours without complaint. I was very impressed with both Harrison and Graham and how well they did on the fish. Total catch and release today was 16 striped bass, all on structure. Great job, great crew!
