43 Fish, 1 Keepah
On board today, I had repeat client, Dick Bowman and his friend, John, for LT striped bass fishing. Dick and I met at Bass Pro shops some years back, and we have been fishing together ever since.
At first light, dark storm clouds were in the west and it was overcast to the east. Heavy rains looked inevitable. And they were. But mostly, the heaviest rain stayed just on shore. It rained most of the morning on our trip, but we had rain gear on and it was managable and fishable.
As we headed to our first spot of the morning on the high tide, I stopped short, shut off the engine, and glassed across the dead-calm bay. Birds working a mile distant! We ran to them and were into small bass for a solid hour on LT. We set many drifts and boated and released 30+ fish in the first hour. Then the rains turned North, the skies brightened and the bite shut off like a faucet.
From there we ran the bay to Duxbury, Kingston, and Plymouth. John was high rod of the morning, landing our only keeper of the trip on a Heddon super spook in bone color. Our total catch for the morning was 43 striped bass, with 1 small keepah.
Today is Dick’s birthday and I told him God sent him that school of fish. He seemed pleased with his birthday present.
Rain all day tomorrow in the forecast but dead-calm seas and a light north wind. Hmmmmm…..
