40 Fish
On board today, I had repeat client, Al Uhler and friends Jeff and Ted, for light tackle striped bass and blues.
At first light – insane fall blitz!!! Topwater action for an hour plus with maybe an acre of striped bass and a few big blues in the mix. We had double and triple hook-ups on topwater action under birds. A few times when the fish came up, the tail slaps were incredible and loud. Fish were busting so close to the boat, I could of netted them – and I wish I tried!
Later in the morning, we found another school of topwater fish a few miles away in a cove in about seven to ten feet of water. Fish were popping and rolling and they stayed up for some time.
Towards the end of the morning, we started fishing some structure spots and found some very small fish over a rocky area. Several other areas were void of fish.
Total catch and release today was a whopping 40 fish, with several blues in the mix in the low teens. Almost all the fish today were landed on rubber crank baits and a few fish were landed on my Baymen Universal. A great morning in a world-class fishery!
Back at it as the fall run continues…
