36 Fish on Fly & LT
On board today I had new clients, Anthony Romano and his lovely wife, Talia, for fly and light tackle striped bass.
At first light, we were into fish on our first drift. We found fish hugging the bottom in 3-20 fow. Anthony fished a TFO 9 wt with intermediate line and Baymen Universal No-Eyes and was into fish on every drift. Talia fished light tackle rubber crank baits and also hooked up on every drift . We had several double hook-ups.
Next spot of the morning we had two fish come by the front of the boat with bait leaping out of the water. Both anglers made very quick casts landing fly and rubber crankbaits right on top of the fish and we had double hook-ups. It was awesome to see! One of the most exciting hook-ups of the season.
Next up, we fished some Plymouth water and found only a few fish on the slack low to incoming tide. We had some follows and a couple nice hook-ups on topwater poppers on both fly and light tackle gear.
As the tide continued to come in, we ran north and found a handful of topwater fish and caught several more on poppers. For fly, the top pattern was a Red/White popper with white tail, and also my Baymen Universal No-Eyes. For LT the top popper was a Heddon Knuckle Head.
The bay stayed pretty flat all morning with a light SES wind. We fished the dropping tide and then the rising tide. Clouds brought rain from the West just as we wrapped up the morning and it is pouring now as I type this report.
Total catch and release today was 36 striped bass on Fly & LT gear. A great, fun morning on the bay with this amazing husband and wife team. Way to go Anthony & Talia!
