29 Fish on Fly & LT
On board today, repeat client, Scott Brymer, and his son, Joey, and father-in-law, Joe, for light tackle and fly fishing striped bass.
At first light, -1.3 low and SW winds, overcast skies. First spot of the morning we found a few fish. Too many boats joined us, so we left and moved to spot #2. We found some more fish hugging the bottom and fished them until low.
The third spot of the morning we got into fish on just about every drift on the low incoming tide. All very fat fish on the bottom on 2- 8 fow. We fished cuts and channels and weed beds between flats and did well. The SW winds made it a challenge to get good drifts, but it was managable.
Fourth spot of the morning and fish were stacked up! I called Joe over to see the fish on the sonar. We got many long drifts with the winds and tide working together. After a short time, many boats joined us and it looked like everyone was hooking up. One our second drift – Keepah! The drag ws singing and I said “that’s got to be a keeper!” I got the net and we brought him on board, took his picture and let him go.
Fifth and last spot of the morning we found fish holding in 7-9 fow over a weed bed. We landed a fish or two on every drift and had many more bumps.
Total catch and release today, 29 striped bass, 1 keeper. Joey, who is 9, learned to fish light tackle like a pro with great instruction from his grandfather. His grandfather landed several fish, including the keeper. And Scott landed several fish on the fly – even in the SW gusts. All in all, a great morning on the bay with a great crew!
Back at it. Stay Posted: 3 more charters and then a little vacation time for this Captain. 26 trips in 30 days in the month of June and it has been glorious fishing with awesome clients! Thank you!
Tight Lines!
