25 Fish, 1 Keeper
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2021
On board today, Baymen Dick Bowman, for his last charter of the season with me. Ten trips under his belt for 2021, great fishing and great times!
At first light, a dead-low tide and flat-calm bay with a wisp on NE. Water temps 62 degrees. As the tide began to rise, bass and bait poured into the bay. Some birds joined in the mix and it made for some very exciting Fall Blitz fishing. First bass of the morning – Keepah! Talk about a great way to start the day!
Almost all fish were on topwater. Nothing like the MASSIVE Fall Blitz that Dick and I got into on September 14th that lasted for 5 hours non-stop. But today was still great fall run fishing. Peanut bunker of several sizes are in the bay and the bass were fussy but not ultra selective as they have been for the past three weeks.
We worked light tackle today and hooked up on bass with Red/White Cotton Cordell Pencil Poppers, Silver/Black Yo-Zuri minnows, 3″ inch pearl rubber crank baits, 4″ inch white rubber cranks baits, and a few other light tackle lures. The bass hit all of them but it took some work and patience. We also landed several fish on the fly rod with a Baymen Peanut Bunker in white with a olive back. No blues in the bay today for us, it was all bass.
Total catch and release today was 25 striped bass, including a keeper released to keep on growing into a future cow. (See photos from today’s trip on my FB page: Baymen Guide Service, Inc. Baymen Charters)
Back at it, Stay Posted: My last charter is October 5th.
POST NOTE: My sincere apologies to the anglers at the #5 can for putting down a school of bass when I pulled up. That is not my style at all, and I drove away when the bass came back up again so you could have them all to yourselves. I hope you had great fishing and got some nice bass out of that school. – Capt. Dave
