On board today, I had regular, Mr. Dick Bowman for fly and light tackle striped bass. Today is Dick’s birthday and the fish and weather were perfect!
The vast majority of fish were at Bug Light on the incoming tide. Fourteen boats (14) all working the same fish and I must say everyone did a great job of giving each boat their own space and not crowding the the fish. It looked like everyone was hooking up and doing well on striped bass to 25″ inches.
We fished fly for the first part of the trip and Dick landed and released a striped bass on his brand new fly rod outfit and a Baymen Universal. The fish were very selective and finicky and not holding, so we eventually switched over to all light tackle and that was the ticket for us!
Top light tackle lures? Yozuri Mag Darter, rubber cranks, and Cotton Cordell pencil poppers with crimped barbs. Dick also did well with a black and silver swimming minnow.
Total catch and release today was 23 striped bass for the morning. A lovely, dead-calm morning with a clearing fog and a rising tide. perfect!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Dick!
