22 Fish on Fly & LT
Greetings from BAYMEN Charters!
On board today, regular client, Dick “The Horseman” Bowman for fly and light tackle striped bass.
At first light – torrential rains! We had to sit out the first 1 1/2 hours and drove to the beach to watch the storm come in. It really rained hard with some lightning in the mix. But it eventually cleared, we got a foot of water out of the boat, and headed out to the fish!
We pulled into a nice school of fish on the last hour of the dropping tide. The fish were running on bait and moving fast. But Dick hammered them on LT! He fished a Hogy topwater popper and the fish pounced on it under overcast skies. We worked the school for about an hour and then moved down deeper into Plymouth waters for slack.
Spot number two gave up two fish in shallow waters of just a couple of feet. Again, the Hogy popper got the job done. As the tide began to come back in, we left and headed into Kingston bay. Dead! No fish, no bait, no birds. From there, we ran to Browns and it was also void of fish. The skies cleared and we went from a low pressure system to a high pressure system and the bite began to shut down. We headed back into Duxbury and fished several more spots with very few fish.
We again went back to browns and trolled along the bank in hopes some fresh fish were going to come into the bay, but it was void of fish. So, we called it a great morning and headed for harbor.
Total catch and release today was 22 fish! Almost all the fish were on LT, and were caught on the Hogy Popper in chartreuse/white. A great, fun morning on the bay.
Back at it – STAY POSTED. Tomorrow is the first day of September….!
