22 fish
On board this am, I had repeat client, Dan McGillicuddy and his Father for light tackle striped bass.
Yesterday, there was a pod of fish in the Duxbury Channel for three solid hours, all on top-water, smashing bait until 9:30am. Today, those fish were long gone and we had to work hard to find new fish.
We fished all over Duxbury and Kingston, and one spot in Plymouth. With few exceptions, all the bass were hugging the bottom in 12-25 fow. We marked about a dozen really big fish down deep in three different spots, but the small fish would beat them to the tackle every time. The only remedy for that would be big live or whole dead baits bounced on the bottom. Today was an all LT day. We did find one good pod busting bait on top-water, but they were up for only a few minutes. They were stacked and big fish were under them, but after two drifts, they vanished.
The wicked winds of this past week were gone and it was a very pleasant, fall morning on the bay. Lots of gulls (most of them resting on the flats) and quite a few cormorant. We also saw an increase in sea ducks coming down from the north. No sharks today :o)
Total catch and release was 22 striped bass. Not bad for October 1Oth!
Hunting season has started. Sea duck and woodcock is open and puddle ducks and upland game starts next week. Check www.masswildlife.org for more info.
