21 Fish, Whales, Seals
On board today, I had repeat client, Brian Ware for fly and LT striped bass.
At first light, we had flat calm seas and they stayed that way all morning. Light overcast cloud cover and a light East wind towards mid-morning.
We found fish in just about all our spots today. No keepers anywhere inside the bay to speak off, but we did land a 27.5 on LT in about 4 fow in a low tide incoming guzzle. That fish hit a 5″ rubber crank bait. We also caught fish walking the dog on spooks, and also on a topwater fly popper on Brian’s 9 wt with a floating line. We mixed it up and had fun!
At one point, a fellow angler came by in his boat with a hot tip. We followed up and found tons of bait, seals, whales, but almost no bass. The morning bite was over. So we ran back inside the bay and found small schools of small fish and had a great time catching them on fly and LT on the rising tide up on the flats.
Total catch and release today was 21 fish to 27.5 inches. We saw several whales, lots of seals, and at one point I saw what looked like a GW rolling and going back down. But I couldn’t be sure.
Back at it. Stay posted:
