13 Fish on Fly & LT
On board today, I had repeat client, Pete Gaudette, who has been fishing with me going back 20 or so years.
At first light, a near low dropping tide and North chill in the air. We picked up our first fish of the morning on our first drift. A few more drifts and then we moved up bay to a massive explosion we saw on the water. Turned out to be a seal working a school of immature Bonito! Well, at least that what we think they were…. We did not catch any as they ignored our LT scaled down to 3″. Not a bump. We moved on and fished T-time and had many follows on the incoming tide, and a few hit and spit bass.
Next, we ran to the Plymouth harbor for a look around and found a school of fish working Fireworks. They were in the hole and running up onto the flats. Pete had several follows and more hit and spits on the fly and one good solid hook-up on a small bass that we boated and released.
From there, we ran up into Kingston for a look around. Another seal bobbing in the main channel and ONE big bass running solo that we only saw once, as it plowed through another school of immature Bonito. We found a scattering of very small bass running crazy over the flats in two feet of water.
Today’s fish were very spooky, mostly small schoolies, and very finicky. We landed a few on topwater spooks, a few on rubber crank baits and a Baymen Universal fly.The wind was fairly strong and pushed out drifts a little faster than I would of liked. The fish were not holding anywhere and were more like albies, if you know what I mean. But we kept at it and had a great morning on the water. The wind finally laid down and it was like a pleasant fall day. Total catch and release today was 13 striped bass, all small fish. No sign of blues anywhere inside the bay.
Back at it as the Fall Run continues….! Stay Posted:
