10 Fish
On board today, I had repeat angler, Terrence Tedeschi for LT striped bass. Terrence took Billy Tedeschi’s place who could not attend today’s trip.
A first light, the bay was flat calm and we had a light South wind. A handful of topwater fish were active for a short time just outside the harbor and then they vanished. The rest of the morning was structure fishing with sub-surface rubber crankbaits and topwater sebile lures that “walk the dog” similar to Zara Spooks. We fished water depths of 5 -30 feet. Most of the fish were in 5 fow.
About an hour into our trip, winds turned due East. We all know what that means. It was very light East but it still slowed down the fishing and moved a lot of fish out of the bay. The handful of fish that remained hung on structure. In typical east wind fashion, we had lots of follows and swipes without takes “East-Winders”. But enough fish hit our tackle to keep us on our toes!
After fishing rubber cranks, we switched over to topwater lures and found a bunch of fish hanging on structure in 5-6 fow. Those fish kept us busy and the topwater explosions were very exciting, even for small fish! They never fail to make my heart jump and it was fun fishing, almost like freshwater bass bugging.
Total catch and release today was 10 fish 21-28″ inches. A lovely summer-like morning on the bay!
