6 Fish On LT
Greetings from Capt. Dave & BAYMEN!
On board today, regulars Frank Harrington, son’s Greg and Frank III, and grandson, Cameron, (The “A” Team) for light tackle striped bass. At first light, winds NNE and breezy, water temps 62 to 67, and air temps cool but pushing into mid-70’s. Half-tide rising.
The “high flyers” that have been showing us fish all week are gone and those fish have moved on. But a very small handful of fresh fish came into the bay. Six fish, actually, in one small one-hundred yard drift. Which is pretty much how the season has been going in our bay so far, with few exceptions. But this did not deter The “A” Team in the least and they pounded my spots all around the bay non-stop all morning long.
We did have several curious fish “east winders” that followed, tail swiped, and never took the light tackle lures. But six fish did and they slammed topwater poppers, and one hit Cameron’s rubber crank bait and gave a great fight. Three of the fish were overslots, taping out to 32″+ inches and were fat and healthy. Three other fish were just under slot limit. All fish were taped and released.
We fished seven of my spots today and only one of them held the fish. All the other spots were void of striped bass. A few clouds of bait holding tight to the bottom with no fish on them. No seals seen inside, and zero birds on the bay.
So the Striped Bass Young of The Year Index grind continues on our three bays. Read some of my previous reports to get more info on why we are not seeing striped bass in our bay this season, and no “Spring Blitz” fish so far in 2025, with only one exceptional day in late May.
There are confirmed reports and some other rumors of big fish offshore and north and south of us. They may be on pogy schools. I have not marked any large schools of menhaden in our bay, but we are starting to see a few in the early mornings. They may start to show in good numbers soon and maybe some decent schools of striped bass will be with them. The few bass in our bay right now are still feeding on green crabs.
That’s my BAYMEN Report for today, June 6, 2025. Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable weekend & tight lines.
Sincerely,
Capt. David Bitters, BAYMEN, baymenlife.com 32 Years Guiding The Bay. Soli Deo Gloria!
