On board today, I had repeat cient, Bob Hollis, for fly fishing striped bass.

At first light, rain showers and calm seas on the last hour of dropping. We fished little rips and hooked up on several fish. When the tide went slack, we head for T-Time and drifted the area with no hits.

Next up, as the tide began to rise, I spotted a tailing a fish crabbing up on the flats. We set up a perfect drift and quickly got within casting range. Bob made a perfect parallel cast and as soon as the fly hit the water, WHAM! That striped bass slammed the Baymen Universal! (The photo above is of this fine bass before we released it.)

As the tide continued to come in, the winds whipped up wicked out of the W/NW. But Bob never let up and cast for five solid hours non-stop. We found a few more fish under birds by Bug Light. Boats appeared out of nowhere and it looked like Memorial Day. If you have fished with me, you know I hate to fish with other boats.

The last couple of stops of the morning yielded one more fish for a total of 9 striped bass caught and relased. Bob fished an intermediate line, a Baymen Universal fly, and a 20lb tippet. The winds made casting very challenging today and Bob was up for the challenge. A great morning chasing striped bass on the fly!

NE winds, rain, and seas on tap for the next couple of days. Stay Posted:
